Editorial

How I write this.

Financial writing on the internet is mostly written by someone who gets paid when you act on it. This page exists so you can judge whether that is true here. Where the writing comes from, what it is for, and what happens when it turns out to be wrong.

Who writes it

I do. One person. No content team, no agency, no ghostwriter, no syndicated feed. Every essay on this site was researched, drafted, checked and published by me. The quality control is thinner than a large firm's and the incentives are cleaner. You are reading a view, not a house position that has been through a marketing sign-off.

What this is, and what it isn't

It is

  • Education about how a decision works, written for someone with no finance background
  • Frameworks: the questions worth asking before you buy anything
  • Comparisons with conditional answers, because the right one usually depends on your horizon and your tax slab
  • Honest about what nobody knows

It is not

  • Investment advice, or a recommendation to buy or sell any security
  • A view on where any index or price is going
  • Personalised. It cannot be, because it was written without knowing anything about you
  • A sales document for a product I earn on, because there isn't one

Specific securities are never named as recommendations. Anything approaching a genuine recommendation requires knowing your full situation, and that is a different relationship with a written agreement behind it.

The process

The question comes first

Topics come from questions people actually ask me. In a review, at the end of a call, or in the same confused sentence three times in a month. I do not write to a content calendar or chase what is trending, which is why the essays are irregular.

Draft for the reader who knows nothing

The first draft assumes no prior knowledge and no jargon. If a concept cannot survive being explained in plain language, that is usually a sign the concept is being used to obscure something rather than describe it.

Check every number against a primary source

Rates, limits, thresholds and tax treatments get checked against the regulator or the authority that sets them, not against another article. Where a figure changes with the Budget or a circular, the essay says so rather than quietly ageing.

Read it back against the compliance line

The last pass is a deliberate hunt for anything that reads as a recommendation, a return claim, a superlative or a promise. Those come out. What survives is the reasoning, which was the useful part anyway.

Sources

Where a fact has an official source, that is the source used:

SEBIRBIAMFINSE / BSE Income Tax DepartmentFund and insurer documents

Scheme documents, factsheets and policy wordings are read directly rather than summarised from a comparison site. Where an essay relies on someone else's research, it is named and linked in the text.

Keeping it current, and getting it wrong

Indian tax and regulation move. An essay written before a Budget can be wrong after it through no fault of the writing. Pieces that depend on a rate or a threshold are reviewed after each Budget and after material regulatory changes, and anything that has gone stale is either updated or marked.

I will also simply be wrong sometimes. When that happens the correction goes into the essay itself rather than quietly replacing the original text, so you can see what changed. If you spot an error, tell me. It is genuinely useful, and you will get a reply.
